Donna Besel author of Lessons from a Nude Man and Joanna Lilly, author of The Birthday Books will present two fall readings in Regina and Saskatoon:

Thursday, September 17th, 7:30 p.m. at the Art Gallery of Regina, 2420 Elphinstone Steet

Friday, September 18th, 7 p.m. at McNally Robinson, 3130 8 Street East in Saskatoon

Lessons from a Nude Man by Donna Besel is a startling and fascinating first collection that displays the kind of humour and disenchantment that arises when everyday assertions, held over time, can swerve a life off course. Besel allows the reader to observe each of her indelible characters closely, through writing that reveals a keen vision, and an energetic intelligence. Besel’s real talent is for telling us the truth.

In The Birthday Books, award-winning writer Joanna Lilley writes with an ear for restrained emotion and an eye for exquisite imagery. Lilley displays a breathtaking ability for allowing her readers the space to move inside her characters’ minds and we are reminded that we all must choose between longing and necessity as we navigate our experiences with place, love, loss and possession. The Birthday Books is both highly-accomplished and moving.

Both Lessons from a Nude Man and The Birthday Books were selected for the Strike Fire New Author’s series which features first book authors and authors who are publishing a second book in a new genre. Hagios Press established the Strike Fire New Author Series in 2011 Manuscripts considered for the Strike Fire New Author Series are gathered through a call for nation-wide submissions.
